Amazon Warehousing Across India: FBA, Delivery Speed and Offer Competitiveness
How regional stock placement, FBA and disciplined replenishment can improve delivery promises without creating excess inventory.

Amazon sellers can use Fulfilment by Amazon, Easy Ship, self-ship or a mix by product. The right choice depends on margin, dimensions, velocity, control and where customers are located.
Regional inventory can shorten the delivery promise and strengthen offer competitiveness, but sending stock everywhere without demand data can increase storage, removal and compliance costs.
Understand the three fulfilment models
With FBA, inventory is sent to Amazon fulfilment centres and Amazon handles storage, packing, delivery, customer queries and returns. Easy Ship keeps storage and packing with the seller while Amazon performs delivery. Self-ship leaves storage, packing and delivery with the seller.
A mixed model can be sensible: proven fast movers in FBA, bulky or low-velocity products through Easy Ship or self-ship, and backup stock outside the network.
Why stock location affects the customer promise
Inventory closer to demand can qualify eligible orders for faster delivery. FBA products receive the Prime badge, and Amazon states that eligible customers may receive same-day or next-day delivery.
A shorter promise can make an offer more attractive, but selection, price, seller performance and offer eligibility also matter. Warehousing should be treated as one commercial lever, not a ranking guarantee.
Delivery can strengthen offer competitiveness
Amazon describes FBA as increasing the chance of winning the Offer Display. That does not mean FBA or a specific fulfilment centre guarantees it. Keep price, availability, account health and service performance aligned with fulfilment.
Build a regional inventory plan
Start with order history by zone and SKU. Place stable, high-velocity products where the demand is proven, then monitor weeks of cover and transfer decisions. Keep a buffer for inbound delays and promotions without overstocking slow lines.
- Map orders and promised delivery time by zone
- Separate small fast movers from bulky or slow inventory
- Compare FBA fees with seller-fulfilled transport cost
- Plan inbound appointments and compliant labels
- Monitor stranded, ageing and reserved inventory
Plan GST before moving inventory
Holding your own stock in another state may require GST registration and the fulfilment centre may need to be declared appropriately. Rules depend on the operating structure, so confirm the current position with a qualified tax professional before creating shipments.
Replenishment is more important than one large inbound
Large one-time transfers can create storage pressure while another region runs out. Use reorder points based on lead time, daily run rate, event forecasts and inbound processing time. Review the plan before major sale periods.

Frequently asked questions
Does Amazon FBA guarantee the Offer Display?+
No. Amazon says FBA can increase the chance of winning it, but eligibility and competition depend on multiple factors.
Should every SKU go into FBA?+
Not necessarily. Dimensions, velocity, margin, storage cost, returns and seller control should be evaluated product by product.
Do I need GST registration in every state?+
Not automatically. Registration depends on where your own inventory is stored and the fulfilment arrangement. Obtain advice for the exact structure before moving stock.
How often should regional stock be rebalanced?+
Review weekly for fast-moving products and more often around promotions. Use demand, current cover, inbound lead time and ageing together.
