Amazon Vine in India: How It Works, Eligibility, Pros and Cons for Sellers
What Amazon Vine means for Indian sellers now that it is widely available, who can enrol, what it costs and where it can backfire.

A new product with zero reviews is hard to sell. Shoppers hesitate, conversion stays low and advertising becomes expensive. Amazon Vine is Amazon’s own programme to solve this cold-start problem: trusted reviewers, called Vine Voices, receive units of your product free and post honest reviews.
Vine is now available to most brand-registered sellers on Amazon.in. That makes it one of the most useful launch tools in India—but only for products that are genuinely ready to be judged. Always confirm current eligibility and fees in Seller Central before enrolling, as programme terms can change.
How Amazon Vine works
You enrol an eligible ASIN and choose how many units to offer. Amazon invites selected Vine Voices to request the product. They receive it free and are asked to write an honest review, which appears with a “Vine Customer Review of Free Product” label.
You do not choose the reviewers, cannot contact them and cannot influence the rating. Amazon selects Vine Voices based on their history of helpful reviews.
- Units are supplied from your FBA inventory
- Reviews are labelled as Vine reviews
- Seller cannot contact or influence reviewers
- Reviews typically arrive over several weeks
Who is eligible
Eligibility on Amazon.in generally follows Amazon’s global rules. Check Seller Central → Advertising → Vine for the exact criteria shown on your account.
- Professional selling account
- Brand Registry as the brand owner
- ASIN with fewer than 30 reviews
- Product in new condition, available via FBA
- Not in restricted or excluded categories
- Live, buyable listing with images and description
The pros
Used on the right product, Vine shortens the slowest phase of a launch.
- Faster first reviews for new ASINs
- Reviews come from experienced, detailed reviewers
- Fully compliant—no risk of paid-review violations
- Better conversion lifts organic and ad performance
- Early product feedback you can act on
- Works across variations of a parent ASIN
The cons
Vine reviewers are honest and often critical. A weak product can collect several low ratings in its first weeks, and those stay visible.
There are also real costs: the free units, FBA fulfilment and any enrolment fee Amazon charges in your marketplace.
- No control over star rating
- Low ratings early can hurt a listing for months
- Cost of free units plus fulfilment
- Enrolment fee where applicable
- Reviews take weeks, not days
- Does not fix a weak listing, price or image set
Who should use it—and who should wait
Vine suits brands with tested quality, sound packaging and a complete listing. It is a poor fit for first-batch products with unknown defect rates, fragile items with weak packaging, or listings whose images and description over-promise.
